Activating the new media for the efforts of linguistic institutions in Arabization: An applied study of the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo

Abstract

This study aimed to monitor the role of the new media in activating the efforts of linguistic institutions in Arabization, specifically the Arabization of new media terms, and in application of the efforts of the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo; then the researcher developed a set of research questions in order to achieve the objectives of the study. This study is considered a type of descriptive and explanatory studies. Accordingly, its research nature necessitated the use of appropriate research methodology and tools; therefore, the researcher relied on the case study approach, and used the structured interview, content analysis, observation, and scientific heritage. Accordingly, the study concluded a set of general results that can be presented as follows:
- The study revealed the existence of a role for the new media in activating the efforts of linguistic institutions - specifically the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo - in Arabization of new media terms, although this role is not an absolute one.
- The results of the study showed that the nature of this role was positive and energizes the Academy's efforts in the Arabization, and it was also a guide to the Academy's interaction with the new media, whose language is characterized by flexibility, vitality and growth.
- The results of the study indicated that the respondents under study made a number of proposals to maximize this role, the most important of which were: the work of a linguistic observatory, the development of a plan for media interaction, the holding of educational explanatory seminars, the issuance of a decision by the political leadership to publish and promote Arabic, and the issuance of a law Protecting it, and using the media to clarify the role of the Academy in Arabization.
