The Treatment of Cartoons in Palestinian daily newspaper of the 2023 Israeli war on the Gaza Strip: Semiological analytical study

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the most important features of the treatment of cartoons in Palestinian daily newspapers printed regarding the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip in 2023, during the period from October 7, 2023, to January 7, 2024. The current study is a descriptive study, and sought to achieve its objectives through a survey approach and a systematic comparative approach. The study collected data using a content analysis form and a semantic analysis tool. The study sample consisted of (186) issues of Al-Quds newspaper and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida newspaper, and the number of cartoons reached (148) through a comprehensive survey method.
The most important results were: Cartoons without commentary in the newspapers studied ranked first at (50%). Cartoons about the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip were published on the last page, ranking first at (97.3%). Medium-sized drawings dominated the cartoons in the two newspapers studied, accounting for 84.4% of the total. Opposing the 2023 Israeli War on the Gaza Strip clearly outperformed the other, ranking first with 93.2%.
