Abstract

This study presents a systematic review of Egyptian and Arab academic production conducted in the context of artificial intelligence applications in journalism between the years (2019-2023), during which these applications gained more attention. The sample consisted of 120 Egyptian and Arab studies derived from the Google Scholar and Research Gate databases, and included 88 research papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 17 research papers in conferences, 8 books/book chapters, 4 research reports, and 3 doctoral dissertations.
The study reached a set of results, including: Egypt came at the top of the sample analyzed, with a total of 81 studies (67.5%). The results also concluded that all Egyptian and Arab scientific journals from various media colleges are keen to enhance scientific contributions related to artificial intelligence techniques and their impact on developing different media work environments at the Egyptian and Arab levels.
The study suggested several future research directions, including:1) Education in the future must focus more on knowledge of new technologies to ensure that academics and students acquire the necessary skills to benefit from them, 2) Adapting curricula in Egyptian and Arab universities to ensure students’ critical participation on the one hand, and updating faculty members’ knowledge on the other hand, 3) Training on the use of artificial intelligence technologies must be a top priority for Egyptian and Arab journalistic institutions.
