Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the nature of role of television sports programs in intolerance in Saudi Arabia, by discovering the extent of which and nature of the follow-up of television sports programs, the motivations of this follow-up, the role of television sports programs in intolerance and the extent of the public’s evaluation of this role. Methods: This study relied on the survey methods using a questionnaire, on a convenience sample of 402 individuals. Results: Overall, this study found that television sports programs contribute to the intolerance of the Saudi public. Whereas, the majority of the study sample believe that television sports programs contribute to a large and to a very large degree in spreading intolerance, and the majority of the study sample sees that level of subtraction in sports television programs ranges from medium to weak. This study concluded the importance of avoiding media excitement and focusing on the details of sporting events in television sports programs, through the establishment of a methodology that adopts constructive criticism and is characterized by objectivity.
