Digital Platform Drama: A Comparative Critical Analytical Perspective between International and Local Research Fields (2012-2022) - A Second -level Analytical Study

Abstract

 The study aimed to examine the recent research trends in the field of digital platform drama. It was a second-level analytical study of a qualitative nature. It was based on the review and analysis of the scientific heritage of Arab and foreign researches and studies. The number of studied researches and studies reached to 119 studies (85 foreign studies and 34 Arab ones), in the period from 2012 to 2022. 
The study declared that the research trends in the field of digital platform drama were determined in the audience attitudes, the extent of their use of dramatic content through digital platforms, the reasons and motives of their exposure, their achieved satisfactions, their exposure patterns and their ways of interaction with the dramatic content. Other studies focused on the content of the drama of digital platforms, the dealt issues and topics, their relationship to the cultural globalization, their languages, the psychological, health, social and cultural effects of this drama, the impact of this drama on television and cinematic drama, its impact on the extent of development of television and cinematic drama in terms of content, production techniques, photography and directing.
Also, the study assured that the majority of researches and studies were in the media specialization, the European countries were the most countries conducting studies and researches on digital platform drama, the majority of these studies and researches are quantitative, the survey method and the questionnaire were the most used. The results added that the researches and studies used different theoretical frameworks topped by the theory of uses and gratifications, and focused on the drama of the Netflix platform as one of the most used international digital platform for dramatic content.
