Theoretical and methodological problems in electronic public opinion studies: A Critical comparative analysis

Abstract

The study aimed at monitoring, analyzing, evaluating and comparing Arab and foreign studies in the field of electronic public opinion from 2016 to 2021, identifying the most important research topics, analyzing theoretical frameworks, tools, and research methods on which the studies relied, the sample analysis, and the most important results of these studies, and developing an analytical vision Criticism with a future vision and proposals for a research agenda to develop research in this field, by applying to a sample of (101) studies, of which 54 are Arab studies and (47) foreign studies, The study concluded that political issues came at the forefront of public opinion studies, descriptive studies that use the survey method, both analytical and field, are the dominant approach, some studies combined two or more theoretical approaches, a large sample size Foreign studies focus on Arabic, as well as the interest of foreign studies in analytical studies, while the interest of Arab studies in the field is predominant, the Arab studies relied on the questionnaire, while content analysis prevailed in foreign studies, and the use of more than one tool was rare. In depth on the results of the study, and the necessity of integrating quantitative and qualitative research methods together to study phenomena in a comprehensive context, orientation to the selection of new research ideas, and the expansion of conducting inter-studies in this regard and linking them to the societal context to achieve more benefit and build standards that test trends of public opinion towards issues.
