Abstract

Many media organizations, especially with TV style, are directed to employ the applications and technologies of augmented reality in the visual narration of the presented content through their news bulletin, casing a revolution in the field of media. This makes the news making art a multi-technology world that relies basically on the visual and audio arts which are presented in different ways than the methods used in the past decades. Based on that, the current study aims to monitor the effect of visual narration using augmented reality videos in presenting the news content on the audience’s perception through a new measure that contains the three dimensions of perception (Recall, Understanding and Analysis). In addition to monitoring the audience’s experience evaluation of using this technology and the intermediate variables that affect this experience evaluation which includes the previous knowledge of this technology and the type of device used in viewing the content. For data collection, the study utilized a survey containing two measures: perception and audience’s evaluation of visual narration experience. The study results showed the importance of employing the new technologies in presenting the news content, especially the ones that ae supported by mobile applications and tablets. It is expected that these technologies will dominate as the results showed the audience’s approbation to them especially the younger generations who avoided using the traditional means such as newspapers, radio, and television. Hence, we can consider these rising technologies, as augmented reality in this study, as a raft for the media organizations to survive.
