Egyptian Women Political Participation, in Presidential Elections in Caricature of Printed Newspaper: A semiology Analysis Study, with Gender approach

Abstract

Newspapers use satire and sarcastic caricature to portray government policies, and important  political events. One caricature may convey multiple intensive complex messages. Political events like elections are occasions for cartoonists to become creative and innovative, seek to highlight hidden discourses and sociopolitical stances in a humorous way. The Egyptian woman has a grown positive role in political community, but without enough interest from media researchers. So present study focuses on  how the caricature represents  Egyptian Women Political Char in Presidential Egyptian  elections. The study adapt  semiology analysis  method, as a key element applied to creating meanings that relate to socio-cultural and personal connections in the second level of meaning which is connotation.   The sample for this study consists of the political cartoons show women roles and their content of election-related messages that were published from  Mai 1 st, 2014, until June 10 th, 2014. A gender study, the study argues that Egyptian Newspaper are not  interest enough in publishing  women's political caricatures,  caricatures adapt the positive attitude  towards  Egyptian Women roles.  The percentage of  women political char in Presidential Egyptian  2014 elections was 6% as a voter, 2% as a  president representer , which is not satisfy with its real political participation.
