Obstacles of public opinion interviewers performance and its effect on data quality of public opinion polls :A field study

Abstract

The study was concerned with revealing the obstacles facing the data collectors in opinion surveys, and the extent of the impact of these obstacles on the quality of opinion polls data and results, the study based on the total survey errors approach as a theoretical framework, the study was based on the in-depth interview and participatory observation tools. The study was applied to a sample of (32 individuals) from the interviewers in several Egyptian public opinion measurement centers, and its results concluded that:- there are some pressures and obstacles that hinder the work of interviewers, and affect the process of data collection and consequently on the accuracy and quality of the results of opinion polls, some of which are related to the institution they work with, and others are related respondents, and a third related to cultural and societal difficulties, all or some of which may affect the quality and accuracy of the results of public opinion surveys in one way or another, in addition to the existence of difficulties related to the type of ownership of the center they work for, the work environment, demographic factors of the researcher or the respondent, and the impact of the data collection tool on the work of the interviewers thus on the quality of the survey results.
