Abstract

The study seeks to understand an aspect of the impact of the Instagram application by revealing its impact on the level of social comparison among youth users, By examining the relationship between the level of exposure and the extent of the activity of users of Instagram, the extent of self-esteem, and their body image as a point for social comparison, Since there are shortcomings in studies that seek to understand the effect of the use of Instagram - in particular - on the mental health of its users, A questionnaire was applied to a sample of 300 Egyptian university students, and it was proved that there is a correlation between the intensity of the Egyptian youth’s use of the Instagram application, at (the level of social comparison, the extent of the study sample’s addiction, and the level of social anxiety for the use of Instagram), It has been proven that there is a statistically significant correlation between the social comparison of the study sample and the extent of their self-esteem, which is consistent with the social comparison theory which assumes that individuals compare their opinions and abilities with others in order to evaluate themselves, if individuals compare themselves with others, which is better and worse affects self-safety.
