The Effect of Watching the Series Presented on the Netflix Platform on the Value Pattern of Teenagers: Qualitative Study

Abstract

The problem of the study focused on identifying the effect of watching the series presented on one of the digital viewing platforms, which is (Netflix), on the value system of adolescents, whether positive or negative, the study used in its theoretical framework the social learning theory of Pandora, and the study relied on the survey method, by applying  a survey on a sample of adolescents exposed to Netflix series, consisting of 48 teenagers, using the focus group discussion, and the results showed the importance of the role of friend groups in adolescents' lives in making many decisions, also it turned out that social networking sites play an important role in Adolescents' lives in promoting new ideas, and spreading innovations among them, it has become clear that adolescents have high exposure rates to Netflix series, which may reach the point of addiction, as they can follow entire parts of the series in very short periods of time, it turns out that most of the series presented on Netflix offer sexual content significantly, the results showed the danger of adolescents' perception of the realism of the content presented in the Netflix series, because that would Increasing the possibilities for adolescents to imitate and simulate the attitudes and behaviors presented by these series as being similar to the actual reality. It also became clear that the percentage of positive values ​​presented in the Netflix series is very small compared to the percentage of negative values ​​that, unfortunately, approved by the majority of the teenagers in the study sample in the context of "personal freedom."
