Impact of Cybercrimes on Teenagers’ Perceptions of Social Safety in Egypt

Abstract

Advancement in technology facilitated cybercrimes related to modern technologies and the rates of these crimes form a direct threat to most public facilities and private organizations and represent an aggression on the rights of individuals with regard to their privacy. Therefore, awareness-raising and follow-up of this new type of crime and the enactment of laws and legislation necessary to combat cybercrime has become a necessity.
As a result of the rapid changes that the world is experiencing, we find that the teenager is often in a state of confusion. This confusion  led to the teenager’s inability to realize what is right and what is wrong.
Accordingly, this study investigated the role of digital media in spreading the crime or in suppressing it and the effects of cybercrimes on the social security of teenagers in the Egyptian society.
The main findings of the study are:
-  The forms of cybercrimes that Egyptian teenagers are often exposed to are "harmful messages", followed by "stealing some files from your computer", then "software piracy", followed by "sending pornographic messages", and finally "viruses".
- The most common types of cybercrime that are most prevalent through the digital media from the viewpoint of teenagers came from the “attack related to the request for money from others via the Internet”, then “impersonation and theft of people's identity on the Internet” followed by “via the Internet,” then “exploitation children on the Internet and publishing child pornography ", followed by" deliberate destruction ", then" electronic stalking and surveillance ", followed by" harmful messages ", then" violation of the intellectual property of others ", followed by" electronic harassment of others "then" defamation ", and finally The "sale of forbidden and forbidden things" came.
- The  effects of cybercrime that could affect society from the point of view of teenagers in “leading to an increase in spending on internet networks and their protection,” then “contributing to juvenile delinquency”, followed by “cybercrime is affecting economic security in society.” Then, “an increase in the level of unemployment in society,” followed by “cybercrime leading to a loss of social interaction between citizens,” followed by “electronic crimes destabilizing the family stability in society,” then “cybercrime is increasing moral crimes in society,” followed by “ Increase in criminal behavior among teenagers. ”Finally,“ Cybercrime affects political security in society. ”
