Directions of News Policy of the Emirates News Agency: A Field study on Employees Working in the Agency

Abstract

A major source of news in the media process is news agencies. A team of reporters are working in these agencies to collect information from various places. This study focuses on the Emirates News agency (WAM) because of its importance as the main official source of news in United Arab Emirates . It works by collecting and disseminating news to all local media channels inside the country. Additionally, all foreign mass media including Arabic and international newspaper are depending upon the Emirates News Agency to get news about current affairs and important events in Emirates.
Thus, this study seeks to answer the following questions:

What are the most published news content and political topics by WAM?
How does WAM perform its media role as the official media organization?
How does the employees inside WAM work and create political media messages?

Accordingly, the study finds that:

The main motivation for employees to work in WAM is personal willingness and desire to know and communicate current political affairs in the Middle East, as well as their desire to serve the community.
Employees in WAM is regularly participating in training programmes to enhance their skills and experiences.
Most participants agree that WAM can collect, monitor, and disseminate breaking political news with neutrality, and objectivity.
WAM’s laws and regulations is arising from the country’s laws and regulations.
WAM rejects any news that may offend the Nation and its people.
There are two main obstacles that influence reporters working in WAM: restrictions of the policy and unexperienced news sources.
