The Effect of Ministerial Websites on the Perception of the Egyptian Citizen of Governmental Institutions: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Abstract

The current study seeks to deepen the understanding of organizational impression management online strategies by adopting an integrated approach to examine how public relations in governmental organizations utilize multiple online communication platforms such as websites and Facebook pages to present themselves positively. In order to answer the above question, the researcher performs methodological and investigator triangulation of the data by conducting a Quasi-Experimental Study, Surveys, and Interviews. The findings indicate the following:

Governmental websites and Facebook pages are served as an effective engagement tools between government organizations and Egyptian online users to form positive impressions among users or to diminish any negative ones.
Citizens were found more likely to be impressed by government news and information that uses ingratiation and exemplification strategies.

By employing an organizational promotion strategy, the main purpose of governmental websites and Facebook pages is to promote the government competence in an attractive way by using photos, videos, and infographics
