Effective Communication Practices in Managing the Coronavirus Pandemic Crisis and Building Health Awareness among Members of Community: survey study of the Efforts of the Saudi Ministry of Health the Saudi

Abstract


This study aims at identifying the communication and media practices of the Saudi Ministry of Health in managing the Coronavirus pandemic crisis (Covida-19) and building health awareness among members of the Saudi community about the virus. Survey study research design has been selected for this qualitative study and the researcher used the questionnaire as a tool to obtain key information from the study population who are Saudi male and female citizens, and the number of participants reached (3133).
The results of the study have revealed that the performance of the Saudi media in raising awareness of the Coronavirus has been remarkable, and that members of the Saudi society rely to a large extent on Saudi media in raising awareness about the Coronavirus. Moreover, the Saudi Ministry of Health's website has topped the list of websites on which Saudi community members depend on to obtain news and information about the Coronavirus.  Members of the Saudi community rely heavily on Twitter to obtain news and information about the Coronavirus as well. The results have also shown the assertion of members of the Saudi community on the great role the Ministry of Health is playing in raising awareness of the Coronavirus, and that the media and communication messages provided by the Ministry to members of the Saudi community have contributed greatly as far as their health awareness of the Coronavirus is concerned. The Saudi community asserts the fact that they have benefited from the Ministry’s messages greatly, and that the information provided on the Coronavirus was extremely accurate and trustful. In addition, the press conferences of the Ministry’s official spokesperson, the Ministry's account on Twitter, and the videos and photos used by the Ministry to raise awareness of the Coronavirus were of great help.
