The social and ethical responsibility of citizen journalism through digital media: A case study for contacts in the citizen journalism department on Al Youm Al Sabea' website

Abstract

The study aimed to know the vision of the communicators in the Citizen Journalism Department at “Al Youm Al Sabae’” Newspaper, of the social and ethical responsibility of citizen journalism through their responsibilities in the department and their contact with everything published through it, according to several axes during which the study questions revolved and through that it was found:
- Through the axis related to the qualification of journalists to work in the Citizen Journalism Department, the clear interest of “Al Youm Al Sabae’ website came with the citizen journalism technology, whereby interviewing the communicators, the study sample showed that their experiences ranged between nine and ten years of experience in journalistic work in general, which proves the website’s interest in selecting the experienced for the citizen journalism department.
- The results of the study indicate that there is a great deal of social and moral responsibility on the part of the citizen journalist, and this is what the respondents’ answers indicated, which they attributed to the citizen journalist’s need to convey his voice to the officials and that the websites are the implementer for him. So the citizen journalist is committed to the professional, social, moral controls and codes of ethics in journalism.
- Social responsibilities come at the forefront of the responsibilities included in citizen journalism, followed by economic responsibilities, which reflects the citizen journalist's vision of the website's mechanism of action and what area he can help in.
- The results indicate that news websites benefit greatly from citizen journalism technology, and therefore will be highly relied upon. This addition is that there are tendencies to employ citizen journalists and try to attract distinguished people to benefit from them in the field of journalistic work.
