Evaluating the practices of Facebook users of media education regarding the contents of digital media and its impact on the embodiment of the concept of citizenship

Abstract

Many recent studies have confirmed the presence of a clear impact of the digital communications revolution in all the activities of our lives, including its effects on the media environment, which is one of the most important environments affected by this revolution considering the increasing role of communication and media through direct broadcasting via satellite, in addition to the widespread use of the network. The internet and the world linked it to information arteries that were not available before, which made it easy to put the public in all countries of the world vulnerable to the influence of its various media on the one hand, and in a position of confrontation with the makers, promoters and sellers of this media on the other hand, which led to the emergence of the term media education in the age of digital media, and this term refers to enabling digital media users to understand media culture, participate well in it, and select from it in smart ways.
This study seeks to extract the answer to the following question: “To what extent do media education skills contribute to the formation and strengthening of the concept of good citizenship among users of Facebook?
The results of the electronic questionnaire showed that users have the three skills of media education, where the skill of analysis “the user is an active participant in the dialogue about the meaning of the media content, and is aware of the various factors that affect the dialogue, the skill of research.” The user is an active researcher in identifying additional appropriate sources for studying media topics of interest Personal, and the skill of influence "The user is able to change the meaning or influence of the media.
Most of the Facebook users “the study sample” are familiar with the concept of digital citizenship, and how to be good citizens on the social networking site Facebook. Or comments and posts in accordance with the principles and moral values ​​that urge that.
Media education skills greatly contribute to enhancing the concept of digital citizenship among the study sample. Users can understand and interpret the media messages presented to them, and even produce the same messages in different ways and methods.
