Employing User Interface and Experience Design Trends in Arabic Journalism Applications: An Analytical Study

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the design of the user interface of the Arab newspaper applications on smartphones, the study sample, and to identify design trends in the user experience of Arab newspaper applications and to reveal modern design trends in Arab newspaper applications on smartphones. This study belongs to descriptive studies, and within its framework, the researcher used the media survey method according to the qualitative content analysis method for a deliberate sample of four Arab newspaper applications (the application of the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the Lebanese Al-Nahar newspaper, the Egyptian Al-Youm Al-Sabea newspaper, and the Moroccan Hespress newspaper) during the period from January 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025. The study concluded that traditional trends dominate the design of the Arab newspaper applications in the study sample, as the standards of the interface and user experience were applied in a weak and inconsistent manner. The study also confirmed the absence of interaction with modern design trends in the Arab newspaper applications in the study sample, including the failure to adhere to digital access standards for people with special needs, and the absence of the use of audio interfaces.
